Does this look like a space where you could relax and unload the mental and emotional stresses that have you weighed down? This is one of the things I spend a great deal of time and thought on - creating a space that evokes feelings of calm and safety. A space that is nurturing and relaxing to be in, one that allows you the freedom to share your very personal thoughts and feelings. These are photos of my Counselling room and I am happy to be sharing them with you.

Creating the right kind of space is so important for positive therapeutic results. We used to be taught that our Counselling room needed to be bland and have minimal décor, so as not to provoke intense emotions or trigger memories, but more and more studies are showing that a space that is bland and clinical can actually have a really negative impact on a persons therapeutic experience.

There's also a lot of information available to us today about the benefits being in nature can have on our wellbeing and mental health, so I have also incorporated some of my favorite natural elements in the Counselling space. Lots of plants and shells, a salt lamp and diffusing pure essential oils all work gently in unison to provide clients with a calm, safe and relaxing space.

And there's cushions for holding on your lap if that's something that might help you if the going gets a bit tough.

Some people are naturally calmed by tactile sensory input. I have a shell collection close to hand for something nature provides perfectly suited to this type of relaxation.

Starting therapy of any kind can be a daunting task. Fear of the unknown, as well as the potential to have to book appointments with any number of different practitioners before finding one that 'fits', can often be the roadblock to receiving help for lots of people. I am more than happy to have a brief phone consult or face to face meet at my Counselling space for any of you that would like the opportunity to check if I might be a good fit before committing to a booking.
